Synthetic Indices Swing Trading Strategy for Steady Gains

June 27, 2026 7 min read

What Is Synthetic Indices Swing Trading?

Swing trading synthetic indices means holding positions for hours to a few days to capture larger moves, rather than scalping tick-by-tick. Because synthetic indices run 24/7 with steady volatility, they're ideal for swing setups — you don't have to babysit the chart or worry about overnight news gaps.

New to these markets? Start with our synthetic indices trading guide first.

A Simple 4-Step Swing Strategy

1. Pick the Right Market

Choose a market that matches your risk: Volatility 10 for calmer swings, Volatility 75 for bigger moves. Match the instrument to your account size.

2. Define the Trend

Use a higher timeframe (H4 or D1) to set direction, then drop to H1 for entries. Trade with the trend, not against it.

3. Time the Entry

Wait for a pullback to support/resistance and confirm with basic price action. Read volatility first using the synthetic VIX indicator guide.

4. Manage Risk

Risk no more than 1–2% per trade. Set a clear stop loss and a take profit at least 2x your risk.

Example Risk Rules

  • Per-trade risk — 1% of account balance
  • Reward target — minimum 2:1 reward-to-risk
  • Max open trades — 3 at a time to control exposure
  • Daily stop — pause after 2 consecutive losses
  • Practise Before You Commit

Run this strategy on a demo account first, log every trade, and only move to a live account once your rules produce a repeatable process. Discipline in following the plan matters far more than any single setup.
